Alistair Crowe

It is with great sadness that we heard of the sudden passing of our friend Alistair Crowe this week. Alistair died earlier this week near to his home in St. Abbs.

Many of you will have known him and others will have met him here at the loch, particularly on our Charity Day in aid of St Abbs Independent Lifeboat. Alistair would take part in the day with his good friend Gus and could always be relied upon to accept our donations on behalf of the Lifeboat and say a few words of thanks that were always laced with stories of the various rescues that he had been involved with.

When we arrived here in Coldingham 14 or so years ago, Alistair was one of the first people to introduce himself to us, making us feel most welcome and accepting us as part of the community. We owe him a great deal of thanks for this and we truly valued his friendship. We will miss him greatly as we are sure that many other people will too.

If we were asked to pick a word that best summed Alistair up, it would be …….. BIG!

He was a big guy with a big heart, a big personality, a big sense of humour and a vast (big) knowledge of the local area and its surrounding seas. He was central to everything that took place in St. Abbs and as a community they will surely miss him for a long time to come. Some might say, irreplaceable. His contribution to the community and to the lifeboat in particular is unparalleled and it is fitting that members of his family are continuing in his name.

We send our deepest condolences to Linda and family and hope that they can draw some much needed comfort from the plethora of messages that have been pouring in.

RIP Alistair
